Name: Mendel – Meaning: “Comfort”
Shalom! My name is Mendel which means “Comfort” in Yiddish. My family of 7 believes that comfort, like compassion isn’t something to be taken for granted. It’s meant to be shared with others. Last week I had my Bar Mitzvah – a common coming of age ceremony that happens when a boy turns 13. I wear curls of hair on both sides of my face. My father and 2 older brothers also have “Payot”. We wear our hair like this based off of the bible interpretation that suggests refraining from cutting the hair at the sides of one’s head.
